About
Us
Since its beginnings in
2000, Ludington Visiting Writers (LVW) has realized two major
accomplishments – 1) bringing cultural and economic enrichment to a small,
culturally-underserved
Michigan town, and 2) providing a lively forum for Michigan poets and
writers.
What makes LVW uncommon
is its independence – it is not a part of any college, university, or
larger arts organization, showing how much can be accomplished with a
grand vision on limited resources.
LVW is committed to
Michigan poets and writers. Under the direction of founder/director
George Dila, LVW has established an ongoing Reading Series, which
has brought over 70 noted Michigan poets, fiction and creative nonfiction
writers to Ludington for readings which are always free and open to the
public; developed annual writing conferences; provided local
schools and libraries with noted Michigan poets and writers for student
workshops; and assumed the publishing of Driftwood, a
literary review dedicated to Michigan poets and fiction writers. LVW’s
also created two Ludington Poetry Festivals, in May 2004 and
May 2006, bringing to Ludington many noted Michigan poets for weekends of
readings, workshops, panel discussions, and fellowship. LVWs
conference
and festivals draw participants and audiences from across the state.
LVW has
been on hiatus since the fall of 2006, so that its director, George Dila,
can re-focus on his own writing. New programs are now being planned
for the fall of 2008.
